I love adventure,or at least I say I do.
When I’ve met new people, or I’ve been to new places, it gives me a nice feeling inside. Happy? Satisfied? Accomplished? I don’t know, I just feel like I’ve expanded my life.
Adventure is not as easy as staying the same. Wait, that’s not always true. It can be very difficult to remain the same when life around you is changing. It can seem like warfare!
On the other hand, we long for ‘home,’ being in a place where we’re comfortable and accepted and know the rules.
Life needs a balance between adventure and staying the same. Anyone always seeking adventure is reckless and irresponsible. Anyone always holding onto the present misses out on, well, life.
Think about the Pharisees in the Bible! They were holding onto the present, to rules they would not bend. They missed out on life!
Some think Judas betrayed Jesus because he was trying to push Jesus to throw off Roman rule. His bent for adventure was definitely a bad move.
How does anyone manage a right balance between adventure and holding on to the present? Our problem is that we lack perspective. We can’t step outside ourselves or clearly see the future. Only God has that kind of perspective.
It would seem obvious that, to live life to the fullest, we need God. We need to trust God to lead us in every step we make. That takes a little faith. Sometimes that takes lots of faith.
“Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. -Hebrews 11:6
