Who's Out There?

November 23, 2022

God has been good to me. My heart aches for a time to thank him. I’m so glad Thanksgiving Day is here.

It’s more than a meal, more than family getting together, more than football on TV. The day is a time to pause and remember that God loves us and has provided a satisfying lifestyle if we stick close to him. There are times when the guidelines found in the Bible don’t seem fair, or they go against what we want to do. They can seem hard, even painful at times. In the end, we have to admit that God’s ways are the best ways. The only unchanging standard for righteousness is God.

Why make a special day for giving God thanks? First, he is worthy of a set-aside holiday. Second, if we don’t set the day aside, we won’t focus long enough on thanking God for our blessings. Third, thanks needs always to point to someone, and all good things come from God; even those that don’t know God realize that there are times when God is the only explanation for why good things fall into place.

In my own life, I thank God for the orderliness brought to my life by my wife. It was a miracle we even met. God provided jobs when my poor grades in engineering closed doors in that profession. God called me into a career in ministry, intersecting my life with so many wonderful Christians. God gave me a new career as a Christian writer, providing ideas and plots without end. I have a home, financial provision, friends, and purpose.

Thank you, God. May each day be a new day of thanksgiving.
