Waves of Ministry

Ministry comes in waves, doesn't it?

We're all ministers, working for Christ in our own ways, once we've committed our lives to Him.

It just seems that at times we're up to our necks in ministering to others, maybe comforting the grieving, or helping somebody find their way to Jesus (takes a while sometimes), or serving the needy.

And then come times when there's not much going on. No problem plops itself down on our doorstep. At times when the waves aren't so high, we need to take the chance to check out where we are in our relationship to Christ.

You know, you can take your hands off the steering wheel sometimes on a straight stretch, and before you know it a curve comes up, and you're off the road. John 15:4 reminds us, "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me."

There are avenues of service opening up every day. Lent is a good time to reassess, to check on how well we're connected to Jesus, so that we'll be ready when the next big wave of opportunity to serve comes rolling in.
