The Start

April 5, 2023

Where do we begin? Do you believe God made it all, or did compounds of chemicals eventually come together to gradually form living things? Whatever you believe, something had to be present at the beginning of time, and the question is, “Where did it come from?” Something or someone had to be here before the beginning of time.

That’s too deep for the human mind. Logically, something can’t be formed out of nothing. If a person does not believe in God, they’ve got to believe that something was present to start everything else. We cannot understand eternity.

To me, it makes more sense to believe in God.

If a person chooses to not believe in God, how can they explain miracles? They cannot. They can only try to explain them away or ignore them. They still occurred. What about people who claim, like me, that God has actually spoken to them and have been guided into a better life? Telling me that communication that doesn’t involve my ears is not real avoids the question.

Faith and logic go together. Everything cannot be explained by scientific inquiry. If I start out with faith in God, everything else falls into place. It all logically makes sense. God is the anchor, the cornerstone that was always here. Without a starting point, you cannot build.

If, for a moment, you tentatively agree that an eternal God makes sense, then maybe you can understand that God must be compassionate. Could God stand by and watch people ruin their lives by turning their backs on him, and not respond by destroying it all?

To me, a loving God would have to have a plan of salvation for the human race, a way to redeem his creation.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
