Technically Frustrated

October 12, 2022

My computer and I had a little run-in the other day. It was not pretty. I’d been working on a long document a couple hours when the thought occurred to me that I might lose it. That’s because I remembered that the last time I worked on this exact document I lost it, and had to start completely over. I quickly put the thought behind me.

Thirty minutes later I lost the document. I tried everything I knew to find it. It was gone.

Too often I feel like my best is not good enough. It’s frustrating, and I don’t like the feeling of frustration. It’s powerlessness. It gets inside my head, like a brick wall that stops me short.

Can God understand my frustration with a computer? Taking a step back, ask yourself, “Is God smart enough to help me with my computer problem?” It embarrasses me to ask, for God’s understanding is beyond measure. Just look at the intricacies of plant life, the atmosphere, human beings.

Did Jesus ever feel frustration, in spite of his power? Of course! He showed frustration with his disciples at times, and the Pharisees, and even a fig tree. He understands frustration.

My wife and I prayed about the unfairness of what my computer did to me. We prayed for God’s help. Then my wife made some suggestions of things to try. I told her I’d tried everything I knew to recover my document. Much later I followed up on her suggestion to “ask for help on the internet.” I rebelled against that idea, since the computer is where my trouble began. When she wasn’t looking, I tried it… and found the solution.

God solved my problem through a suggestion from my wife. God knows computers. God can help with frustration.

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
