Ready to Go
March 15, 2023
When I was growing up I had a problem finishing what I had started. I was full of great ideas, but often those ideas never were completely followed through on and finished. I was just smart enough to get by with this in high school – a hurried finish was still very good- but in college the problem came back to bite me. College was hard! I would have graduated with a much higher GPA if I had learned to finish well.
Employment was different, though. I never slacked off at a job. I was always committed to earning my pay.
I gradually taught myself to become a good finisher. For my own reputation and integrity I had to learn to do what I said I would do, and in a timely manner. If you say you will do something and then you don’t, people wonder if they can believe other things you’ve said. (That’s an idea for a different day. A Christian does what he says he’ll do, so that people will believe what he says about God.)
Being stubborn about finishing a project can have its drawbacks. I sometimes close my ears.
How many times have I used the excuse with God, “I’m not done here yet. You know I’m not available for another assignment yet.” I can protest, but I know I’ll go wherever God sends, and do whatever God sends me to do. It’s hard to admit, but I don’t really have to understand. I just have to go. God has proven he can be trusted.
Jeremiah 29:11, “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”
