Prayer

Dr. Franklin had three children, Tommy, Bill and Sue. He loved all three.

Tommy wanted a basketball. One day while Dr. Franklin was reading the newspaper, Tommy came in. "Dad, did you know my old basketball has gotten real smooth and slick? I wish I had a new one." His dad looked at him, rubbed his chin and nodded his head. Tommy didn't mention it again.

Sue wanted a new doll. One day while Dr. Franklin was reading the newspaper, Sue said to him, "Dad, I wish I had a new doll. My old one has lost all its hair and one eye doesn't open. I'd like one of those soft and cuddly ones you have to adopt." And Dr. Franklin looked at her, rubbed his chin and nodded his head.

About once a week, Sue would mention her need of a doll. Sometimes she would show her dad how worn out her old doll was, sometimes she would show him a picture in a catalog of the kind she wanted and sometimes she would just sit in her dad's lap and tell him she loved him, even if she never got a new doll.

Bill, Dr. Franklin's third child, wanted a radio-controlled car. One day while Dr. Franklin was reading the newspaper, Bill came in. "Dad, I'd like to have a radio-controlled car." His dad looked at him, rubbed his chin and nodded his head. And Bill made it a habit each day to say to his father the word 'car,' somehow, some way.

At the end of six months, Sue had her doll, but the boys had neither basketball nor car. Does that surprise you? How does this relate to our prayer requests to God?
