Love Your Family as Yourself

I was talking to one of the nicest men I know this week. I guess. He's always been gentle, kind and sweet. When the conversation turned to his church, though, suddenly he was mean and angry. It took me by surprise.

I understand that everything does not always go right, in any organization. We don't always agree with our boss. We don't always think our friends are doing the right thing or making the right choices. It's not all that unusual to hear strong opinions about others. Family is different, though. Any faults we find with our brothers or sisters or parents are usually kept within the family. Church is family.

Let's make it our practice to never speak harshly about our church family to outsiders. God has drawn us together to combine our varied personalities, skills, and gifts in service to God. He meant for us to be different. God uses our differences to reach a melting pot of a world.

See your church family through God's eyes. Take a second look at the faults you see in others, to find the benefit God meant for us through that particular quality.

Now we are the body of Christ.
