Heavenly Days!

January 9, 2023

I suppose we’ve all heard it said that a person can be “so heavenly minded that they’re no earthly good.” Does that really happen? Can people be so focused on their abode after death that they can’t live fully on this earth?

It is good to have hope for the future. No, it is crucial to have hope! In fact, that’s probably the cruelest thing to take away from somebody—- their hope! We have to have a reason to get out of bed in the morning. We have to have something pulling us forward. Heaven is the final destination for those who have accepted Jesus’ death on the cross as payment for their sin. We will have eternal life.

But do we know what day-to-day living in heaven will be like? Glimpses of heaven in the Bible focus primarily on glorious worship. Will we spend most days hanging around with friends and relatives who have also died as Christians? Will we sit in our ‘mansion over the hilltop’? Will we do those things for eternity that we most enjoyed on earth, like fishing or fixing things?

The main fact about heaven is that we will live in the very presence of God. That’s all we really need to know, along with the fact that God loves us with an everlasting love.

Today, though, this week, this year we have a great life we need to live into, right where we are. God’s Spirit lives in us and is guiding us to a wonderful life in relationship with God. We have a chance to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We have the chance to love our neighbors in a Godly way. We must not miss the chance!

Philippians 1:23-24, "For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you."
