Half a Glass
March 29, 2023
I’m ready for warmer weather. I’ve put most of my long-sleeved shirts away, my winter gloves, and my thick jackets. I’ve left winter behind. I don’t say it too loud, because there is always someone that will bring up “that year we nearly froze at Easter Sunrise Service” or when the peaches were ruined by an almost-May cold snap.
What if we have a frigid day now? I’ll shiver when I’m outside, and spend as little time outside as possible. I will not drag any long-sleeved shirts back out. Is that pride or stupidity?
When I turn the corner toward hope, I’m not going back. I’ll smile as I shiver, because spring and summer will come, and soon.
Did you notice, by the way, that on Groundhog Day the Northern animal predictors expected extended cold, while Georgia’s General Beauregard Lee predicted an early spring? Looks like they were both right, for their region of the country.
Anyway, I choose to look forward to a future that’s an improvement over the present. I’m an optimist, because that’s what God has built me into. God sees the best in each of us, and as I am being transformed into his likeness, I also begin to see more good around me. I know there is always hope for those who have embraced Jesus and his gift of eternal life. I have faith that, through God all things are possible.
Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
There are those who see the glass as half empty. Others see the glass as half full. Well, I don’t know. I just take the glass, drink the contents, and find myself refreshed!
