Feast

Restaurants are teaching us to be do-it-yourself taxidermists. The portions they give us are much more than we really need, and we "stuff" ourselves.

Often we regret overindulging ourselves later, because we gain weight; it's much harder to lose weight than it is to put it on. In fact, the Bible calls gluttony (willful overeating) a sin, and we should have regrets about it!

Gluttony is acceptable in one area of our lives, though, and is actually encouraged. Ephesians 5:18 says to "be filled with the Spirit." Go ahead, get all of God you can. Fill up beyond the point at which most people stop.

Have you ever watched someone suffer at a buffet or Thanksgiving meal or a family feast, because they just couldn't allow themselves to eat very much? Sometimes it's because they're on a diet, or perhaps their doctor has forbidden certain foods. They really suffer, while the rest of the guests are having a great time.

God lays out a great spiritual feast for us, from the Bible to prayer to worship --- and many other great 'casseroles' and 'desserts.' This is no time to diet! Don't hold back! Blessed is the person who can shout exuberantly, "I'M FULL!"
