Almost All

March 20, 2023

It’s the little things that eat time. I know, from personal experience.

Baseball season will begin in less than two weeks. I no longer watch the games on TV every day, which saves an enormous amount of time. However…I keep track of the score. Too many times I’ve failed to finish my Bible reading for the day, because of too many times checking the score.

Another time eater is texting back and forth with a friend while working on something important. Not only does it nibble minutes away; it also reduces concentration, which also makes the main task take longer to complete.

I also find that nibbling snacks tears my concentration away from my work. As before, lessened concentration makes everything take longer.

Where else does my time go? It goes a zillion places, a little here and a little there. Benjamin Franklin is credited with writing the adage, “Watch your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.” He wasn’t just talking about money.

Little tidbits add up, but that can also be a good thing. Changing the music you listen to in the car to Christian music can steer your thinking a little toward spiritual things. A word of encouragement here and there, or even a smile, can help your friends. Some people carry a cross in their pocket as a little reminder of what Jesus has done.

There’s not always a lot of difference between “all” and “almost all” each day. Over time, though, that little bit of difference adds up.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and strength and mind.” Luke 10:27.
