Too Late for God

Really, I meant to get it done. Don't I always read my Bible right after breakfast, God? I've only missed it a couple times.

Well, actually, I've missed reading your Word two days in a row. To catch up, I've got to read seventeen chapters of Isaiah today. Lord, you know I don't like reading this particular book. I know that

is not a good excuse.

I will read through the Bible by the end of the year, just like I have the past fifteen years. There was one year I actually took two years, but I guess I'd forgotten that for a second. Dear God, I love the Bible. I really do.

If I don't keep up with my checklist of chapters to read each day, I feel guilty. I want to read through the whole Bible every year. It's my personal commitment. I claim this book as my guide to life.

Do you keep track of my reading as close as I do, God? I wonder. Each time I hear about someone that has had a near-death experience and has gone to heaven for a short time, then come back, they never mention your calendar on the wall. Are there calendars in heaven? Maybe God keeps it all in His head, and just does things "in the fullness of time."

What kind of watch do you wear, God? Is it just an inexpensive Timex, or is it a flashy Rolex, fit for a king? Come to think of it, no one has ever had a vision that told us if You wear a watch or not.

Okay, if there are no calendars in heaven and no watches, I'm going to relax a little. Lord, I think You just want me to do my best to do be Your servant, day in and day out, come what may. I'll get done as much as I can.

Philippians 1:21-23, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.”
