Things Don’t Fit

We’re in a different house now, and our Independence Day decorations need to find their rightful place.

You know how it is. When you’ve lived in a house for a few years, holiday decorations go in designated locations year after year. There’s no variance. Each piece has its place.

There is a certain excitement in being able to find that perfect new place for each piece. I’m afraid that’s not true this time. Our July 4th decorations were bought for a different layout and rooms of a different proportion.

Ah, that’s life.

Ever feel like things are a little off? Your job is not quite right for you. Your friends are just a little different and you can’t find that ‘forever’ comfort with them. Your car is not quite right but not unfaithful enough to justify buying a new one. Your town is too big or too small.

It’s an old problem. We make do. We do the best we can.

God has that problem, too, but he fixed it. People are faulty and keep messing up his perfect plan and perfect world. Through faith in his son, who died on the cross to pay for our mess, we are reconciled to God. He made the pieces work.

Now we have the ability, through God, to soften the corners on everything and everyone around us. We can make things fit.

”So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us.” II Corinthians 5:20
