Feast or Pain

Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away.  Just think of all those wonderful foods we'll enjoy that day!

Now, I know the reason for the celebration.  The fourth Thursday in November is especially set aside to thank God for His many blessings.  You may not have the most of anyone you know, but God has provided you many people and things to be thankful for.  Thanksgiving is a very Christian holiday.

Whether or not you get to be the one to pray aloud before the gathered crowd's big meal, be sure to take time to thank God for all He's done.

In most American families, we share a huge meal on Thanksgiving Day.  There are far more choices of things to eat than at our normal meals, and many of the foods are specialties saved for festive occasions.  We pile our plates high, and eat much more than we need, expect, or should!

Often, for a time after the feast, we groan a little.  We ate too much, just like last year!  Why do we do it?  Because it's part of the celebration.  We want to spend fellowship time around the table with dear family and friends.

Jesus understood this.  In Luke 5:33-35, we read, "Then they said to him, "John's disciples, like the disciples of the Pharisees, frequently fast and pray, but your disciples eat and drink."  Jesus said to them, "You cannot make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you?  The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.""

While we're gathered together, we'll eat.  Later, ... we'll diet.
