What's Found Is Lost
Tomorrow we will deal with the change to Daylight Saving Time. I love that it signals spring is almost here. We set our clocks ahead one hour.
In many ways, I prefer the time change in the fall, when we change from Daylight Saving
Time back to Standard Time. When clocks are set back, I get a bonus hour, either for sleep or for staying up an extra sixty minutes. Over forty years ago, my wife and I were married on such a weekend. We actually needed that extra hour, since our plane scheduled to land in Philadelphia (going on our honeymoon) had to land in Newark instead. It took a little extra time to get to Philly.
I really do love having more hours of daylight every day after supper. It's great spending more time outside.
That extra hour found in the fall, of course, is the same one taken away in the spring. Daylight Saving
Time always begins at two in the morning on a Sunday. As a church pastor, I can't afford to get the change wrong (though once our musician did, and turned her clock back instead of forward).
Don't let yourself miss worship because you didn't reset your clocks! Don't stay home because you can't deal with losing an hour of sleep. Consider your attendance as a gift to God, who is the best thing that ever happened to you.
Above all, be kind and loving to those poor souls who show up at worship an hour late. Love them like you'd want to be loved in the same situation.
"Another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home." Jesus said to him, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of god."" Luke 9:61-62
