Chapter Two

My book publisher is closing its doors! It caught me by surprise. I'm left with good memories, two books, and one unpublished book.

I learned a lot from Tate Publishing. They were always doing all they could to help me. The biggest lesson, one that every new author must learn, is that your name means little at the beginning. No one knows you, except locally, so you have to learn how to market yourself and your book.

Turning points are often stopping points. A little bump in the road will keep some folks from continuing on. A major obstacle will turn many, many back. For all, obstacles are important assessment times: Am I really going in the right direction, or should I be on another road altogether?

Difficulty is never a good reason to quit. The easy way is, more often than not, the incorrect path. If you are truly following the path God wants you on, you should refuse to quit.

I am called by God to be a United Methodist pastor, and I'm equally convinced that I am called by God to be a Christian writer. It's time to find a new publisher, with God's help.

"Enter through the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it." Matthew 7:13-14
