Not Famous Yet

I understand why they ask my name. The barista or fast foods counter person wants to beckon me when my coffee or food is ready. Still, it seems like fake friendliness. They'll forget my name as soon as I'm served.

My friends and I decided that we would substitute famous names for our own when the counter person asks our name for that temporary use. I've been Elvis and Dino. One friend has been Bono, others have been someone else.

It's been fun, and we'll continue to be temporarily famous. However, you can probably already see the drawbacks. What if that restaurant worker is really trying to learn the names of their customers? Maybe you also love it when someone in a place of business remembers your name. It makes me feel significant, and maybe a little appreciated. I, myself, try very hard to remember the name of waiters and waitresses, and even service people I talk to on the phone.

So, if I'm at an establishment that I'll be doing business with repeatedly, I'll just be me. I'm not famous yet, but maybe I'll get to be well-known locally. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," you know?
