Worn Out on the Inside
I have really enjoyed these brown shoes. They are dressy enough to go with knaki pants, but not so dressy they look like they ought to be worn with a suit.
I've had these shoes for several years. They are old friends.
I'm so sorry that they are wearing out. Oh, the outside looks pretty good, the soles have most all their tread, but they are getting very uncomfortable on the inside.
I bought some padded insoles to go inside these shoes. What a difference!! They are almost as comfortable as the first day I put them on.
Oops. Now I notice the uppers, on closer inspection, are looking a little worn. The laces have some really weak spots; they could easily have broken weeks ago.
Two things come to mind. First is the old saying, "If I had known I'd live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!" The second? If you're comfortable with who you are inside, the outside is not all that important.
First Samuel 16:7 reminds us that people look at the outward appearance, but God looks on the inside.
