Gambling on the Future

Graduation is a kind of middle ground. Time will not let you stay in the middle, though. After high school, which path is the right one to take next?

In its simplest form, the choice is either get more education or start a career. Beyond that, choices must be made about the direction of higher education, or the particular occupation to begin.

The choices are impossible. It is very rare that a person ends up in the career they initially prepared for. Life takes crazy twists and turns. For instance, I got a degree in civil engineering. My jobs have been cook, working for an insurance company, grocery store clerk, pastor and author.

All we can do is make the best choices we can, with the information we presently have. Whether we choose to admit it or not, God's hand will guide us to the places he wants us to be.

If I could choose again, I probably would get an English degree, then go straight to seminary. That would be a mistake. I'd miss the greatest blessings that came my way.

"For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope." Jeremiah 29:11
