Catching a Moving Train

It's my first day back at work, after a week off. It's hard to know where to start.

Everything wants to be the first task I tackle! It all needs to be done right away, but I'm not ready to move at top speed yet.

Life is like a moving train today. By this afternoon I'll match your speed and be back on the train. You don't need to wait for me.

A friend at seminary taught me the trick to walking with a full cup of coffee, and I think it applies here. To keep from spilling the coffee, you don't look at the cup but instead focus on something that is not moving, like the corner of a window or a door post.

Today, I'm not going to focus on all the work I've got to get done this week. Most of the tasks are a moving target, without a particular time they have to be accomplished, and flexible as to size and shape. I'm going to focus on God's love for me, constant through time. It's how I'll get back on track.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
