The Tuxedo

In the back of my closet, I keep a black tuxedo. I've only worn it once. Yes, it's like new.

I had to buy it for the time I sang with the Brewton-Parker College chorus (they invited singers from the community), in a performance of Handel's "Messiah."

You may assume that I keep it around for the memories. It certainly was a grand performance, though I was in over my head, 'the least of these.' No, I keep it for two reasons: First, I just may need a black tuxedo one day, and, second, it represents a standard size for me.

If I ever need a tuxedo, I want to be able to fit into it! The last time I tried it on, believe it or not, it was just about too big for me! I had just completed a diet. Thankfully, the pants have elastic in the waist.

On the other hand, we all have times when our weight inches up. The tuxedo represents my upper limit.

You may have guessed what religious ending I'm heading for with this. It's simply this: Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father, but by me." Jesus is my standard, and I won't let myself get too far away.
