Expect Neglect

I can't plant a garden. I tried several times in the past, successfully, but I can't do it anymore.

And yet there is nothing like a fresh, homegrown tomato. Nothing!

Being a pastor doesn't go with gardening very well. There are times when I can set my own hours, and other times when I need to just drop what I'm doing and tend to a crisis. There are weeks when I've got an incredible work load, and other times when life flows at a calm, slower pace.

Gardens need regular attention. Mine gets neglect.

So, I settle for a few tomato plants. My limit is four plants. There is nothing like a fresh tomato. Tomatoes can stand a little neglect, especially if you put them in a container of some kind, with a water reservoir.

There's a lesson there. If you don't set your expectations very high, in your relationship with God, you still may produce some great fruit. God has mercy! You may want to glance at your neighbor's 'garden,' though, and see how much more fruitful your life could be if you were to seek God with your whole heart.
