Creating a Town

I'm beginning the writing of my third novel, tentatively titled Building a Better Raymond.

I'm at the point now of describing the little town that my main character, Ray Wright, moves to. Hopefully, this village will host my next three books.

How do you start? I want a town big enough to have serveral businesses, all the standard utilities, little crime, and a handful of memorable characters.

Like your town?

For the most part, the yards will be mowed, the houses will be in good repair, the people will be friendly and likely to talk amiably with one another.

Maybe a little more ideal than your town?

This town will be a place where people encourage one another, where good deeds are applauded, where churches are an important part of the fabric of life.

Is your town like that? How can a town be created like that? Why, it's that old Golden Rule we've been hearing about our whole lives: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Love your neighbor as yourself.

I'm still working on creating that town. There is progress!
