Look Who's with Us!

I needed to make a hospital visit early yesterday morning, to the suburbs of Atlanta. Right after an early breakfast, I headed up the interstate.

I really love driving on the interstate. I understand that some folks are just the opposite, avoiding it at any cost, always choosing the road less traveled. I always choose the road greatly traveled.

Between 7 and 9 am, most of the traffic heading toward Atlanta consists of people heading to work in that great city. They range from the patient, cautious type to the weaver, who is always looking for a chance to move up a few car lengths. All of us are at the speed limit or slightly above.

I noticed a driver in the middle of the three lanes, car obviously on cruise control, that had her visor down. That was odd for a cloudy day. When I saw the little visor lights, I realized she was putting on makeup, traveling down the interstate at 75 miles per hour. Perhaps that wasn't the safest way to drive.

That's not my point, though. Most of us have done something similar, like talking on the phone or reading emails or eating a big sandwich whle driving. The point is that driving on the interstate, especially near a big city, takes a lot of faith, not just in God, but in each other. We all have to take care of each other, because not all of us are at our best at any given moment.

That's my idea of the church. None of us are perfect, but we travel together, taking care of each other as we head for our destination.
