Eat More Steak

I grilled two beautiful steaks today, a gift from a friend.

I have two small grills, one charcoal and one propane. The charcoal grill takes a little preparation. On the other hand, I wasn't sure if the propane grill had enough fuel left to cook a steak. So I decided to cook one steak on each grill.

I poured charcoal into the charcoal grill, piled it into a pyramid, doused it with lighter fluid, and ignited it. I usually wait at least a half hour for the charcoal to settle down to beautiful cooking coals.

Meanwhile, I started the propane grill and put a steak on it. It was well done in fifteen minutes. Due to my superior organizational skills (!!!), the rest of the meal was ready and on the table by the time the steak from the propane grill was ready. I divided the steak between my wife and I, and we sat down to a lovely meal. The second steak, on the charcoal grill, cooked while we ate.

Now, ordinarily we would have a steak each. However, when the second steak from the charcoal grill was finished, we were full! What's wrong with this picture?

Joy and I have not eaten many steaks lately. In fact, I think this may be the first we've had in 2015. And when you're just not used to eating steak, you just can't eat alot of it.

There's a connection there with your walk with God, isn't there? When you're not used to serious work in growing closer to God, it doesn't take much to satisfy you. When daily devotions are seven minutes, when Bible study is just those few verses from Sunday's sermon, when "love thy neighbor" is just a few bucks in the Salvation Army kettle in December, you'll find you won't be looking to put much of God in your life. That's a huge loss. You might say that God is the 'steak' in life, and people settle on cold cereal.
