Big Town

What a day! Our small town had its annual festival today, starting with a pancake breakfast at the senior center, then continuing with food vendors and other booths across from City Hall. We even had our own little prince and princesses, introduced to the crowd in all their finery.

Now, I've met a lot of people in the month and a half we've lived here. Besides my own church members, my wife and I have been the guests at a potluck at another church. I go to the post office every day, and the local grocery nearly as often. I've met a lot of the people on my own street.

So, where did all these other people come from? Nearly all the local residents I met today I had never met before!

And what an incredible lot they were. Kids, young adults, folks my age, and senior citizens, every one of them small-town friendly. And I never knew they existed. It made me want to go door-to-door and just get to know everybody. And eventually I will, I promise. I guess you can tell that I love it here.

If we could ever get all our friends together at one time, what a town we'd have! Let me say it another way: What keeps a town full of great individuals from working together? Whatever it is, let's get over it. God has a higher purpose for all of us.
