Big Visits
It's amazing how powerful the act of visiting another person is becoming. Have you noticed?
We don't visit other people like we used to, and there are many good reasons for it. For one, most everybody has air conditioning, so we keep our windows and doors closed, and people don't sit out on the portch at the end of the day. People work longer and unusual hours, so sometimes we don't know when a good time to visit would be. We've lost our knack for small talk or light conversation; people keep to themselves even when they are with other people, with earphones on or with one ear to the telephone. Lots of people have gates or unlisted telephone numbers (or their line is always busy).
So even an occasional visit to a person becomes a big event. They stop everything and spend more time than they thought they had when you come by. They tell their friends about it the next day. They remember everything you talked about. You become much more important in their life.
I encourage you to find time to visit somebody you don't know very well. Make time by missing one of the Atlanta Braves telecasts, or go on one less shopping errand, or put off a little of the laundry until tomorrow. Your visit can be an example of God's love and care.
