God Forgets?

Does God forget our trespasses? Well, not exactly. God is not absent-minded. Psalm 103:12 says that God removes our sins from us "as far as the east is from the west." Yet God knows us inside and out.

It's not the remembrance of what someone does against us that is the problem; it's the emotions connected to the remembrance. The emotions can cause a distance between friends.

Let me illustrate this. You throw a party, and a close friend says he'll be there. Well, he never shows up and you're hurt. If you say you forgive him, and don't invite him to any more parties, it's not God's kind of forgiveness. When God forgives our sins, he doesn't forget them, but He doesn't allow them to affect future relations with you. You are just as loved as if you had never sinned.

Forgive me, Lord, and let me surprise You when I don't do that same sin again.
