Let Them Serve

There are a lot of things that children and teens can do in the church, if we give them a chance. In fact, they often get excited about jobs that seem ordinary to many adults. It has been said that kids aren't the church of the future, they are part of the church now. Sounds good, but we still don't call on them to do very much.

Jesus had a lot to say about kids. He said to let them come to him, don't hold them back or block them in any way. He commended their kind of faith, trusting without reservation. We adults often seem hesitant to put our complete trust in God. We want to use our own ability until we find it inadequate.

Children and teens add a lot of life to a church. In fact, they would add even more life if we didn't insist on keeping them in check. We do our best to teach them that church is dull and boring, that excitement is out of place in worship. Why does church have to be dull and boring? Reverence can be exhibited in lively ways, too, can't it?

May your love of God be filled with excitement!
