Too Much Truth
The truth hurts. Sometimes I just don't want to hear it.
In fact, I rebel against hearing the truth from those who seem to love to hurt me with it, wielding the truth like a Viking battle axe. I'll bet you can agree with that! How many scars do you have from times people bluntly spoke truth to you "as a friend," with no trace of friendliness? I close my ears to truth that enjoys 'slicing and dicing' me or someone else.
I know, though, that the truth is good for us. Godly advice can protect us from future harm. A true friend can reveal truth to us that we are somehow blinded to. That friend, however, had better bring it with a bucket of love.
The more jarring the truth is expected to be to the hearer, the bigger the bucket of love we must bring with it.
